Highland Global Health Day 2017

August 26, 2017

Members of Highland Emergency International (HEI) organized an amazing Global Health Day for our program's academic conference on August 23 2017. This year the emphasis was on hands on skills and equipment hacks for low resource settings, and the ethical dilemmas providers face while working clinically and logistically in health care settings abroad. Speakers and panel members included Dr Dan Schnorr (Highland 2015 alum, Medecins Sans Frontiers - MSF, South Sudan 2016), Dr Rohini Haar (Highland EM part-time clinical faculty, UC Berkeley School of Public Health instructor focusing on human rights and complex humanitarian crises and conflicts), Dr Sachita Shah (Highland Ultrasound Fellowship 2008 alum, director of ultrasound education for Partners in Health - PIH, and director of the Global Emergency Medicine fellowship at University of Washington), and Dr Daniel Hart (Hennepin County International Emergency Medicine / Global Health fellowship 2016). We had a multi-modal conference experience including a simulation, skill sessions, case presentations and panel discussion. Dr. Shah closed out the conference with a keynote address. And, in keeping with Highland tradition, there was a post-conference taco truck. See the schedule below for what you might have missed, and thanks to everyone who organized and participated in this inspiring event.
